They're very alert to signs of abandonment so they throw us a crumb and we think "they finally get it. we're making progress 🥰phew, I'm glad I didn't leave" and then we get used to these mini payouts and keep waiting and waiting and waiting while the periods of abuse and mistreatment last longer.
